About Ren Aimua
Karen "Ren" Aimua is a Nigerian-American mixed media artist who is pursuing a double degree in Business and Studio Arts with an anticipated graduation date in May 2024 from the University of Pittsburgh. As an undergraduate student, she experimented with drawing, painting, screenprinting, intaglio, photography, sculpture, and digital imaging. Despite gravitating towards painting and drawing, her practice perpetually mirrors her innate tendency to bend the rules. This is seen in her choices to use found materials and combine the techniques from the aforementioned media.

Her eclectic process grants Ren the cathartic freedom to quickly document her evolving responses to the anticipated but unpredictable bouts of change she faces throughout life. She thinks of her works as realized objects representing specific chapters that culminate into a living autobiography. Untangling the emotions through the marks, forms, and colors brings a sense of control to the external and internal contributions to the chaos. Thus, producing work that could be considered managed turmoil. Ren’s work will be displayed in an upcoming pop-up exhibition called The Art of the Living in the fall of 2023 & in Changes in Exposure in the spring of 2024.
